We have one brand new member and a returning member you may just remember. Please welcome Traci Morganfield who joined us in mid-November, Martha Ferris, w/a Rebecca St. John, who joined just a couple days later, and Deb Stover, who joined in the last days of the month!

Tracy lives here in the northern part of town and is transitioning from writing Fantasy and Science Fiction w/RE to Historical and Paranormal Romance! She's eager to learn more about the elements that make a great romance novel. When you get a chance, welcome her here to our website!

Martha is a returning champion, re-joining CRW after a short sabbatical. She hails from Freedom, Wyoming and writes Historical Romance. I bet she may dabble in westerns...how could you not - living where cowboys run free? We're sure glad to see her return. Give her a shout out!

Deb is another returning champion, rejoining CRW after concentrating on her wonderful writing for several years. HOTR Contest for Unpublished Writers Update

The Board has announced due to a computer glitch, the finalists for the HOTR contest will not be announced at the CRW Romance Lover's Tea and Anniversary Party event in October. CRW regrets any inconvenience this unfortunate technical difficulty may cause entrants and judges. Stay tuned here for more details and the new announcement date.

August 2013 Mini-Con

The Board approved an Mini-Conference event for August, 2013! We have invited Laurie Schnebly Campbell to visit on Saturday, August 3, 2013 and present several classes for our group and other Denver area writers!

The day will start with an intensive PLOTTING YOUR BOOK mini-workshop including:

  • Plotting Via Motivation - Any of us could write a book in which the characters set out for a three-hour tour and get shipwrecked on an uncharted desert isle. But if you nail down a character's motivation, it doesn't matter whether the ship capsizes or lands safely three hours later. Your characters will create a plot from WHATEVER happens, because you've got their motivation built in from the very beginning... and here's how to do it.
  • From Plot To Finish - Once a writer knows the elements that belong in her characters and her plot, she's all set...right? Well, actually not always. Making the move from a few basic answers to a manuscript which is actually ready to type involves a series of steps that people have called "incredible...a plotting system which truly RESPECTS that I'm a pantser" and "the easiest way I've ever seen of getting from Basic Idea to Finished Book."

Be sure to check back here for updates and announcements of the agents and editors who will be attending!

New Members!

We have several new members! Please welcome Bonnie McCune who joined us in August, and Heather Sands, w/a Heather Lire, who joined in September!

Heather was at our September meeting so you may have already gotten a chance to say hello. Please welcome here to our website!

Bonnie has already made a nice splash and introduced herself to the group via postings and blogging. She will be one of our authors at the October Tea, so you'll be able to put a name to a face!

Change in Monthly Meeting Venue

Our meeting will be held at the Anythink - Wright Farms library on 120th and Jasmine, just east of Holly. The address is:

5877 E. 120th Ave.
Thornton, CO 80602

Directions:

I-25 to 120th Avenue exit.

Turn east and drive about 3 1/2 miles.

Anythink is on the north side of the street on Jasmine, which is just east of Holly.

Please be sure to RSVP so we know how many are coming!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to rising rent costs, the Church will no longer be the host of our Colorado Romance Writers meetings.
What Happened?
In the last week of August, the Board received the renewal contract from the Church and was shocked to discover a 350% hike in our rental fees. Unable to justify the outrageous cost increase, it was unanimously decided to look for another venue.
What About the Tea?
The October Tea will still be held at the Northern Hills Church and all will go according to plan.
What About September?
For the September meeting, we have decided to move to the more affordable Comfort Suites in Westminster.
     Comfort Suites
     12085 Delaware St., Westminster, CO, US, 80234
      Phone: (303) 429-5500
      Fax: (303) 429-3300
It is conveniently located one block west of 1-25 on 120th. We will be meeting in the breakfast room, which is to your right after you enter the lobby.
Directions
For those coming from I-25, take your first right - Delaware. The motel is on your left.
For those traveling east on 120th, there is no left turn at Delaware. Therefore you will need to turn left at the light at Huron or at the light at Melody and travel 1 block north to 121st. Turn right and continue east to Delaware. Turn right. The motel is on your right.
What About November and Beyond?
The Board has not made any final decisions on the location of a new meeting place. This was a very quick change due to the new contracts. The Comfort Inn was chosen to host the September meeting because it was available and affordable. We'll see how it all works out.
What Can I Do?
The Board is diligently searching for a new home. What you can do is help in the search. We are looking for a venue to cover the following requirements:
  • Available from 10am - 5pm
  • Holds 35-50 members comfortably
  • Allows us to bring in our own food
  • Allows us to exchange money
  • Has Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Access to AV equipment
  • Is handicap accessible
  • Fits within our budget of $150.00 per meeting
Please let any board member know if you know such of a venue.
What Locations Are We Looking At?
The board discovered more than 1/2 of the membership live in the north and west part of the city, or are from the outlying areas of Boulder, Brighton, Loveland, Ft. Collins, and even Wyoming. With that in mind, we are striving to stay in the general area of I-25 and 104th north to Highway 7.
How Do I Contact You?
Last Day to Renew Membership Dues at Lower Rate
Your check must be postmarked, or your payment made via PayPal by, January 31st.
Libraries could be a choice, but in the past we've found that most of them will only reserve a room month to month, i.e., you never know if the room will be available "long-range" as we need.
Another possibility (which I admittedly haven't explored) is fire stations.  They often have a meeting room available, but I don't know sizes or "rules."
Comment by Elizabeth Haysmont on September 6, 2011 at 8:29am
Anythink Libraries (West Adams County) have meeting/conference rooms. The room at the Brighton facility has a kitchenette.
The only problem is that it's $25 an hour for the half room (I think) so seven hours would be $175. That price is system wide. If we get desperate, that's an option.
Wright Farms branch even has a coffee bar...
