FIRST ANNUAL "Building Your Author Business" panel and interactive workshop.
Being a published author in the new millennium is complicated. You can no longer just concentrate on writing. Instead you must own and operate a small business that produces stories for sale.
Not only do you have to write the best book you can, but you have to thoroughly edit the content as well. No agent, editor, or publisher wants to see a messy manuscript. You have to decide whether to pitch the story or publish it yourself. Both paths hold their own challenges, and rewards. You'll need to create a marketing strategy, devise publicity and promotional opportunities, schedule book signings, and gather reviews.
That means you'll be wearing a lot of hats in this job. Not only are you the Chief Writer, but you're also the Creative Director, Chief Executive Officer, Finance Director, Chief Operations Officer, Marketing Director, Promotions and Publicity Coordinator, and Sales Manager.
To help you on your way, we've come up with a fresh idea for our September meeting presentation - a "Building Your Author Business" panel. Experts and industry professionals from several of the areas you must master will be on hand in the first hour to give a short presentation, then field questions from the group.
In the second hour of the workshop, we'll split our panel members out into smaller, more intimate groups so you can get some in-depth answers to your questions and feedback on your ideas.
Join our very own Helen Hardt, Amy Denim, Holley Trent, and Heather Lire, along with Joy Clintsman and Patrick Hester, and get those author business building blocks!
