January CRW Meeting at Anythink Library Wright Farms Branch

January 10, 2015 from 12pm to 4pm
As writers, we forget that our role is about more than writing a book. Yes, being a good wordsmith is an important part of the job. But for authors, there is so much more to what we do. We are, in fact, entrepreneurs. From figuring out where to send our books (big publishing house, small press, self publishing, hybrid), how to market our books (not even the big publishing houses will do that for you), what to do ourselves and what to hire out (web design, anyone), we carry a huge load of…See More

A message from the President...

From the President

Hi and welcome to Colorado Romance Writer’s website!

New to Colorado and looking for a romance writer’s group to join? We’re here for you!

Been writing romance awhile and looking for some other writers to commiserate with, umm, I mean, socialize with? We’ve got your back too.

Just stumbled upon the amazing world of romance fiction and can’t wait to get your ideas transformed into words? Come on down!

Surf around the website a little and be sure to check out our events and online workshops. We’ve got a lot to offer you like monthly meetings with workshops on everything from craft to the writing biz, a truckload of online workshops (at a discount to members!), a writers’ retreat up in the mountains, and a mini-conference (with a big name.)

Your first meeting is free, so you can come and get to know us, no strings attached. Can’t wait to meet you. I’ll be on that welcome wagon when you walk in the door. Don’t be shy (or if you are, I promise to be your friend.)

Well, hello there current CRW member! Happy to see you back on the site. I love that you’re here and participating in one of our awesome tools.

Are you here today to blog? Have you RSVP’d for this month’s meeting? Oh, I know, you want to volunteer for one of our activities, (like say, the annual Romance Lovers Tea Party – my favorite event every year.)

Good on you!

You’re the rock in our roll and I’m so glad to be on this crazy writing journey with you. Remember,

Together, We Can!

Have You Met The CRW Website?

Hi Everyone!

The fact that CRW members don't interact much on our website was recently mentioned to me. That's true. We're pretty quiet in here. But we don't need to be. This website has many capabilities that are underutilized and even some that aren't utilized at all.

To help change that - I decided to do a series of blog posts to introduce you all to the capabilities of our website. Also, I had the idea to start up some new groups, resurrect some existing groups, and get…

AOE FINALISTS TO BE ANNOUNCED AT APRIL 13, 2013 MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Our 2013 AOE finalists will be announced at the Saturday, April 13th meeting! We're really excited to share this year's finalists, and may have a VERY pleasant surprise for a CRW member or two who entered the contest.

Hopefully everyone can be there. We've got a great program with Courtney Milan, and book reading from a new author. So it proves to be a great day!

Speaking for my fellow Coordinators Aimee, Tiffany, and Jen, I say we all hope to see you…

Author! Author!

"Why aren't you published yet?" and other light holiday banter

While lazily re-reading the letters of Madame de Sévigné, as one so often does at this time of year, I stumbled across a particularly revealing review of a book released several centuries ago. Quoth the great lady: This Morale of Nicole is admirable, and Cléopatre is going along nicely, but in no hurry; it is for odd moments. Usually, it is reading this that lulls me to sleep -- the large print pleases me much more than the style. "Good gravy!" I exclaimed. "Aspiring writers across this ...

Talking turkey, part II: never a dull moment!

Even so, you're entitled to be a little startled when Bertie with the pitchfork suddenly begins speaking out of the mouth of that otherwise perfectly pleasant person your brother brought along to dinner because he's new to town and has nowhere else to go. Instead of emptying that conveniently nearby vat of cranberry sauce over his Adonis-like curls, may I suggest trying to be charitable? Your brother's friend may actually be doing you a favor by verbalizing your lingering doubts, you know. ...

Talking turkey, part III: a short course in real conditions

Ah, it's a pretty fantasy, isn't it? The agent reads the entire book at a sitting -- or, better still, extrapolates the entire book from a swift glance at a query -- and shouts in ecstasy, "This is the book for which I have been waiting for my entire professional career!" A book contract follows instantaneously, promising publication within a week. By the end of a couple of months at the very latest, the really talented writer will be happily ensconced on a well-lit couch in a television ...

Talking turkey, Part IV: when all other routes fail you

Okay, how might one gird one's loins for that especially indigestible discussion? Had you thought about responding to the question "Published yet, Charlie?" by abruptly asking how everyone at the table feels about the recent election? Or universal healthcare? Or a certain grand jury verdict in Missouri? You see the point, don't you? Just as it's risky to assume that everyone gathered around even the most Norman Rockwell-pleasing holiday table shares identical political beliefs, it's always ...

Talking turkey, part V: being cruel to be kind

How's your list coming? Will you want to send one to your favorite writing teacher? The lady at the archives who took all that extra time to help you research the book? What about your college roommate? Or that blogger who gave you hope when your relatives criticized you? (Oh, yes, authors constantly send me review copies. As much as I appreciate the gesture, please, don't waste a book on me that you could send to what are euphemistically called opinion-makers: I'd be more than happy with ...
